The East and Central Africa portfolio now includes nine Waldorf schools and one Waldorf project (in a refugee camp). Most of the schools are united in the East African Waldorf Association, which includes more Waldorf schools that do not need the help of the IHF.

All Waldorf schools in East and Central Africa make use of the EATT, the East African Teacher Training, the training institute for Waldorf teachers. In the past, students were trained by Europeans from anthroposophical ranks. Nowadays, the institute is entirely led by locals and all the teachers are black, much to the satisfaction of the students.

Three times a year, teachers come to the EATT in Nairobi for two weeks. They do this during the holidays of the schools where they work. They are happy to do this. Friendships are made with like-minded people from other countries. They meet again at the meetings of the Aaat (All African Anthroposophical training) and the conferences of the Association. Everyone is obliged to follow all modules of the course years. This is strictly adhered to. If you have missed one, you must make it up.

After three years, they take a practical exam at their own school with a mentor from the training. Because the travel costs for the recently established school in Malawi are too expensive, a course has been organized on site from the EATT. Two EATT teachers will travel to Namasalima in Malawi in June and December to give two weeks of training to the new teachers, in their own classes. An exciting experiment.

For a three-year training, more than 3000 euros must be paid. For accommodation, food, study materials, the salaries of the trainers. As long as these schools do not receive government subsidies, the IHF will pay for this. It is the guarantee for the quality of the Waldorf schools. The same applies to the other portfolios.

A large part of the IHF's expenses goes to the teacher training institutes. The waiting list for new students at the EATT is often long. At the moment, the IHF is looking for sponsors for 2 students from Madagascar, 1 from Tanzania, 2 from Malawi and 2 from Kenya.
