Colectivo Colibrí

July 2024. The international Waldorf conference for all Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries takes place in Santiago de Chile. At this conference, teachers from different cultures meet in the search for the foundation of a curriculum that is more connected to the original culture.

It started with weaving: at the conference, weaving techniques from the indigenous culture of the Mapuche (Southern Chile and Southern Argentina) were practiced. From the conversations that arose here, it quickly became clear that a large group of schools wants to connect Waldorf pedagogy even better with local cultures in Latin America.

Colectivo Colibrí has picked up this thread. It is a group of colleagues from different Latin American countries who have set themselves three goals. They want to work on the identity of local schools within the local culture. They want to graft the Waldorf curriculum more onto local cultures and stories, such as those that exist in the Mapuche culture. And thirdly, they want to establish even more and better connections with local cultural communities as an anthroposophical field of work. Colibrí wants to lay a foundation for the connection with the cultures in Peru, Chile, Argentina, and more countries.

The collective has drawn up a multi-year plan and would like to continue with this form of assimilation. This initiative involves a lot of work and time from people. Difficult when you know that subsidies for Waldorf schools are not an issue in Latin America. If you want to tackle this properly, you also need finances. As an International Aid Fund, we want to support this initiative.
